TOMMY FOR TOMORROW
INNOVATING FOR A BETTER FUTURE
To work towards our 2030 sustainability goals and support positive change within the fashion industry, we know we need to innovate. That’s why we are continuously researching, testing and running projects that push boundaries and build our knowledge of biotechnology, circular systems and innovative materials.
To do this, we collaborate with partners throughout the fashion ecosystem to support our industry’s transition towards circular, lower-impact and more responsible fashion.
We are piloting collaborations with innovators, both through wider industry consortiums and direct collaboration, using a seed, scale and maximize approach within our business and supply chain.
There are so many amazing innovators out there, and we’re constantly working to engage with as many as we can. These pilots represent the ones that we’ve seen as the right fit for our business at this moment in time. As our business evolves and the landscape of sustainability changes, we’re constantly looking to learn, improve and broaden our scope.
Read on to learn about the materials, technologies and partners that are helping us do this.
Circularity & Recycling
SANTIS 100% RECYCLED COTTON |
ONE MATERIAL TYPE PRODUCTS |
RENEWCELL |
RECYCROM™ |
REVERSE RESOURCES |
INFINITED FIBER COMPANY |
Mechanical recycling of 100% cotton waste. This originates from 100% pre-consumer waste, and technological advancements mean we’re now able to use 20% post-consumer and 80% pre-consumer waste. It has been a mainstay of our collections since SP19. Product Categories: We’ve tested it in multiple products like chinos, t-shirts and heavy weight knits, but found it is the best fit with denim. |
Sometimes innovation isn't just in the materials we use, but the way we use them. Rethinking the way we create products, we launched guidance on the use of one material type (inclusive of trims, embellishments, construction and labeling) to ease future recycling and reduce the impact of our products at the end of their life. These guidelines have been the start of our circular design journey. |
Renewcell creates CIRCULOSE®, a pulp created from 100% textile waste that is used to produce viscose, a manmade cellulosic fiber (MMCF). Fibers made with CIRCULOSE® differ from conventional MMCF fibers, as they partly use recycled post-industrial and post-consumer cotton textile waste instead of wood as a raw material. You’ll find it in the FA23 Shawn Mendes collection. Product Categories: Polos, sweaters and t-shirts. |
This process makes garment dyes out of recycled textiles. Through a complex production process, fabric fibers are transformed into a fine powder that can be used as a pigment dye for textiles and garments made of cotton, wool, nylon or any natural fiber and blend. Recycrom ™ is embedded in FA23 Shawn Mendes collection Product Categories: Chinos and shirts. |
This circularity tool helps us understand the waste we generate so we can cut it down and better recycle what's left over. We’ve implemented the tool in our supply chain to better understand material flows and volumes. In the long term, our goal is to use this to quantify, reduce and trace the waste generated and recycle it back into new products. |
Infinited Fiber Company´s breakthrough textile-to-textile recycling technology turns textile waste into new, high-quality fibers called Infinna™. The first TOMMY HILFIGER t-shirts made with InfinnaTM were released in Europe in summer 2022, with further expansion planned to new product categories and for future seasons. As one of the first brands, we launched Infinna™ in t-shirts in the SU22 collection. |

Innovation Ecosystem
We collaborate with wider industry innovation ecosystems so we can help drive fashion forward, for good.
Fashion for Good
As a Fashion for Good partner, we participate in impactful consortium projects to push industry developments forward in the fields of sustainability and innovation. To date, we have been part of 9 projects. This includes the Black Pigment Pilot project, which aims to validate and scale the use of black pigments made from waste feedstock to create a more sustainable source for black dyes.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES
We will keep exploring various innovators in the field of textile-to-textile cotton, polyester and mixed recycling, working towards creating a more circular product ecosystem.
We are also continuing to seed and scale 100% biobased solutions, which can potentially support our transition to more sustainable manufacturing and consumption. Along with our research in the leather and PU alternative space, we are exploring fabrics made from alternative feedstocks, such as agricultural residue.
